Meet the Counselors
Lisa Glinsboeckel, Ed. S
School Counselor
Welcome back students and parents to another exciting year here at Abney Elementary. My name is Mrs. Lisa Glinsboeckel and I am one of the school counselors here at Abney Elementary. I've been a School Counselor for almost 20 years, all of which were with Paulding County. Over the years I have met a lot of wonder people, including students, parents, teachers, and community members.
I began my school counseling career here in Paulding County in 2004 after completing coursework for a Masters Degree from Niagara University in New York. I also graduated from Buffalo State College in 2002 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. In December of 2006, I earned a Specialist Degree in School Counseling from Jacksonville State University in Alabama. After I graduated from Niagara University, I was recruited by Mr. G, a former Abney principal, at a teacher recruitment event in Buffalo.
My job at Abney Elementary is to ensure that each and every student has the opportunity to succeed and achieve at school. As part of our counseling program, we provide classroom guidance lessons, individual counseling, as well as group counseling. With each of these program delivery methods, the purpose is to promote academic, social, and personal growth and awareness. We encourage students, as well as parents, to seek our help when they are facing an issue or problem.
I look forward to working with all of our students!

Stephanie Bruton
School Counselor, Ed.S
My name is Stephanie Bruton and I am thrilled to be an Abney Eagle! It is hard to believe this is my 8th year at Abney Elementary. Paulding County has been my home for the last 17 years...my co-workers, students, parents, and community members have been such a blessing and so much fun getting to know.
I grew up in Hattiesburg, Mississippi a lovely, medium sized town about 90 miles from the Gulf Coast. I received my bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Southern Mississippi (Go, Eagles!). My family still resides in Hattiesburg and can't imagine why I wanted to move away, while I like to affectionately say I was proud to be the first in the family to have ESCAPED mostly to satisfy my curiosity about other people and places. However, I travel home quite often to visit my parents, uncle, brother, niece, and nephews!
I discovered I LOVED the mountains and moved to Knoxville, Tennessee. Where I was able to enjoy the mountains and full seasons year round. In my years in Knoxville, I worked as a Case Manager with a Community Mental Health Center, Hamblen County Juvenile Court, DFCS, and Eckerd Youth Alternatives Boys Camp. When I realized I really wanted to help kids before their troubles became out of control, I juggled work and school to earn a master's degree in School Counseling from Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, TN.
In 2003, I was very excited to begin my school counseling career in Paulding County at Shelton Elementary. I spent nine, wonderful years at Shelton before moving on to a new position at Abney and Russom ES. I recently completed my specialist degree at Valdosta State University. It was a Fantastic learning experience, but the online/digital learning was also stressful! However, I am so grateful for that experience as it reminded me how frustrating and stressful learning can be for many of our students. I love teaching our students new social, academic, and career skills in guidance class, as well as, helping them with problem solving skills when in crisis. I also love celebrating our student's success through the Great Work program, Character Education, and our No Place for Hate program. I will continue to work primarily with K, 2nd, and 4th grades, while Mrs. Glinsboeckel works with 1st, 3rd, and 5th grades.
I look forward to seeing you in the hallways and assisting you whenever possible!
